duk - why the name Bluetooth?

did u know - why Bluetooth is the name?

“Harald Bluetooth was king of Denmark in the late 900s. He managed to unite Denmark and part of Norway into a single kingdom then introduced Christianity into Denmark. He left a large monument, the Jelling rune stone, in memory of his parents. He was killed in 986 during a battle with his son, Svend Forkbeard. Choosing this name for the standard indicates how important companies from the Baltic region (nations including Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland) are to the communications industry, even if it says little about the way the technology works.”

fredmiranda weekly theme update

the list of finalists are here…my shot did not get picked , 20/20 says I should have submitted the invalid password one…but oh well. Some of the finalists are really good shots, but the others I feel that they got selected because of the “ancientness” of the subject and not because of the execution (like the ones of the old camera and the record player )

this week’s theme - “pick the one that does’nt belong”

:idea:s welcome.

gmail annoyances

Let me first say that GMail is absolutely the best webmail interface today. It has got tons of features, including some wicked keyboard shortcuts, that will make your life easier…blah blah.

That being said, I do have a few complaints:

  • Hitting ‘Back/Fwd’ from anywhere in GMail does nothing :!: This is really ridiculous; the browser is after all a ‘browser’, I should be able to navigate at will.
  • Cannot add names from contacts list to an email. Yes, the ‘intellisense’ when you type the first few letters of the name is really cool, but I still have to start from scratch! It is easier to pick from a list, especially if you are sending a message to a group.
  • Speaking of groups, the Contacts feature should also support creating groups like ‘collegues-for-xrated-jokes’, ‘buddies-and-pets’ etc
  • Folders, I like them and want them back. Yes, labels are really nice and cool and are somewhat ‘better’ than folders….but I would like to think that folders and labels should work together. They are physical and logical separation units. It should not be either/or.
  • Ah, the signature…why attach my signature to every dang reply/reply all/forward, even if I am the conversation starter?

darden food festival

Topic: general| 125 Comments »

i am currently in charlottesville, VA…for about 10 days. I got a chance to attend the Darden (MBA school of UVA) International food festival. Here are some photos from the event.

Update Oct 06
Well, Darden’s “cold call chronicle” newspaper published four of my photos this week…there were total of seven published, of which 57% of them are mine

Bad news, the editors did NOT credit me for the photos  They decided to credit unknowns like Susan Wormington and Angela Huang… between the two of them they had 3 passable pictures and I had four tight photos !!
Yes, it is probably a honest mistake, somewhere somebody miscommunicated or worse somebody did not do their homework and (yikes) worst somebody just did not care!

I would appreciate it if the editors published an ‘Errata’ in the next issue to rightfully acknowledge me and/or blast an email to all Darden students about the mistake and attach a reference to the rest of my photos(”http://www.browngeek.com/dardenfood.html”).

Future CXO’s anyone :???:

Anyway, shown below are the photos that got published…there are more ‘artsy’ ones here.
