touching the void

Topic: films| 32 Comments »

Last night I saw the documentary Touching the Void on PBS. It is an extremely well done portrayal of a real life incident (accident) of two mountaineers, Joe Simpson and Simon Yates. Joe, wrote a book about his experience on which the documentary is based on. He is basically stranded for 4 days/nights with no food/water/heat in icy crevices…plus he has one leg broken:!: The film has a great mix of commentaries from the real climbers and actors who enact the ordeal. Joe manages to crawl his way down the mountain…and the actor that played him is superb. I personally liked the scene where the completely dehydrated Joe is hallucinating…about BoneyM! He has the song “Brown Girl In the Ring” playing in his head over and over…and he says “I can’t believe I am gonna die to BoneyM!”.

This is a 2003 release, i am sure PBS will play it many times now. I highly recommend it!

halo2 halo2
ok, I was seriously considering joining the Midnight Madness lines to get the first copies of Halo 2.
Then I realized that I was slightly sane for that
So I woke up early this morning (8AM) and went to the local Target store. As I walked in at 8.15AM I saw 2 white middle-aged fellows walking out excited and happy…and they had Halo 2 Limited Edition in their hands. This sight was encouraging for me, not only because of the fact that the store had the LE copies in stock but also that I was not alone in falling hopelessly for the Master Chief…that early in the morning
Anyway, I walked in straight to the games section and joined the handful of customers in the store waiting for their turn. The store clerk kept asking each one of them “Did you reserve your copy?”…I had not:!: When my turn came, I was trembling  hoping that there be one last copy for this despicable irresponsible single brown male who would not take the time to reserve his copy…
YES! there was one! Hail Master Chief!

oh, and I was pleasantly surprised that Target was giving away the Halo 2 Strategy guide for FREE with the purchase. I got my LE now, have not opened it; will wait till tonight until I am alone with the Master Chief

well…get ready for civil war.

the country is as divided now as it was in 2000…
divided america
if this trend continues, we may see a civil war or the fall of the United States, just like what happened to the former USSR.
The fight for USBA and the USRA (United States of Blue/Red America)

On the positive side, its only 4 more years…

hope kerry wins today!
