I took Singapore Airlines flight SQ001 from SFO to Singapore. The first leg is a mammoth 15hr flight from
SFO to HongKong. I was fortunate to meet Sanjay Ranthod in the flight. A lawyer by profession, he also is
on the board of the Sierra Nevada Env Agency. There was a 30 min layover in HongKong, where I had to dash out
of the airplane to stretch and get the madatory Starbucks latte…
The next leg from HongKong to Singapore was a short 3 1/2 hr hop. I read about the tsunami disasters on this flight,
saw it in the ‘HongKong Times’. I was shocked and had to immediately call my family from the airplane. Although we live
close to the beach, thankfully there was not much damage near us.
On getting off in Changi Airport, Sanjay and I decided to hop on the ‘Singapore Hop-On’ bus
to kill time in the city (I had 8 hrs before the Singapore-Madras flight). Another interesting
character (Mallik) joined us. We spent about 5hrs in the city wandering from Suntec City to the Boat Quay to Orchard Road.
We searched far and wide for a ‘Singapore Sling’ drink but nobody seems to offer it (Definitely not as
popular as margaritas in Mexico!). I had Singapore Satay by the river and then some Nasi Goreng in an hawkers market in
(yet another) shopping mall off or Orchard.
Here are some pics of my 5hr Singaporean experience.

Time magazine, which I read every week and like, has decided to pick Dubya as the Person of the Year 2004.
This is ridiculous!
Even if the main criteria is stupidity, Dubya cannot win because there are 59,054,087 people that are ’stupider’
Time’s editor says “Time chose Bush for sticking to his guns (literally and figuratively)…for persuading a majority of voters this time around that he deserved to be in the White House for another four years”.
This is a joke! Don Rumsfield was the one who “stuck to his guns” and Karl Rove was the one who “persuading a majority of voters” (read that “persuading a majority of christian extremists”). Dubya was (and is) just a puppet thru all this. So Rummy and Rove should have split the title this year.
Wait! Perhaps the main criteria was “Evil”? Maybe, but I don’t think so because then the title in 2001 should have gone to Osama…
I think this is pure ass-kissing by Time; pandering to the lowliest whilst furthur separating the 59,054,087 dumb people from the rest of us.
The movie Oceans Twelve sucked big time. It was a pure exercise of vanity by Clooney and Soderbourgh; they just wanted to prove how easy it is to make $$ in sequels once you made a hit.
Eleven was smart and funny. Twelve is dumb and dull ![]()
